General random events are not skill limited, they can happen anywhere and anytime and are there to make sure you are awake and at the keyboard.

Mysterious Old Man
"Greetings"
Mysterious Old Man A lonely man seeking company?

The Mysterious Old Man (MOM) appears and interrupts whatever it is that you were doing. Some say he's just lonely, so if he talks to you, you should talk back. If you do, he'll reward you with a gift, possibly kebabs, spinach rolls, gp, gems, tallismen, half keys and caskets (rarely). If you ignore him and do not reply he will teleport you to a remote location.

The Maze

Sometimes, Myserious Old Men can't be bothered talking to you, and will teleport you to a maze. Complete the maze as fast as possible, and you will receive a valuable reward - possibly hundreds of runes, arrows and ores. There are also some chests inside the maze which you can search, but it slows you down. The longer you take to complete the maze, the less your reward will be.

Mini-map of the maze
Strange Boxes

Also given by the MOM. If you're paying attention, you might even notice him saying "Here, take this!". Click on the box and answer a simple question regarding the numbers and shapes on the box. If you get the question right, you'll receive some gp, a gem or maybe even a half key! If you ignore the box or answer the question incorrectly, the box will duplicate, filling your inventory until it's full. Once it's full, the boxes will start to stack! If this happens, you'll have to open each one and answer the question; you can't bank the boxes or drop them. You'll only get the reward once you've answered them all, and you'll only get one reward for all of them, not one reward per box.

The questions won't challenge you much
Miming

The MOM teleports you to a mime artist, and you have to follow his actions. Rewards from this include Mime clothing (Mask, top, pants, gloves and boots) and the ability to perform 4 new emote animations.

The stage Special mime items New emote animations
Pinball

This time the MOM challenges you for a little game. It's called pinball, but human pinball would be more correct. You have to tag 10 poles. You can only tag poles with rings around them. If you tag a wrong pole, or try to leave before you're finished, your score will be set to 0, forcing you to start all over again. Rewards include noted gems, ores or food.

"Hi, my name is Bob."
Bob the Cat What it does:

Introduced on one Friday the 13th in 2004, Bob the Jagex Cat has become the unofficial "pet" of Runescape. He wanders all over the member world, and if you're lucky enough to spot him, you can brag to all you meet that you've seen him.

What you should do:

If you're wearing your Amulet of Catspeak, go ahead and speak to him. He'll tell you some jokes, and maybe even hint that he's really a famous Runescape God. If you're not wearing your amulet, Bob will simply ignore you.

Postie Pete (members only)

Postie Pete What it does:

Pete is the official "postman" of Runescape. As well as taking care of the Postbag every month he also wanders all over the members world delivering mail to various NPCs or even come to visit you, and if you're lucky enough to spot him, you can brag to all you meet that you've seen him.

What you should do:

If you aren't busy, speak to him and you may be interested in what he has to say, although he's a bit crazy he can even speak wyvern!

Cap'n Hand
"My mistake, milord/milady, I was thinking yer to be..."
Cap'n Hand What it does:

He's just a lonely sailor looking for company, but he's a bit confused. Maybe he's been away at sea a little too long? If he speaks to you, maybe he's simply got you confused with someone else...an old shipmate, maybe?

What you should do:

Speak to him and receive a reward. He's been known to give gp and uncut gems to people that give him a couple moments of attention. Other loot he hands out includes food items like kebabs and spinach rolls, and sometimes even half keys. Ignore him, and you may be sorry. Cap'n Hand is a pirate after all, and pirates are usually armed and dangerous. He'll attack you with his crossbow if you try his patience.

The "Certers"
"Hey there, I need your help..."
This is Miles What it does:

Ever notice that you can withdraw multiple items from your bank as notes? In RuneScape Classic, "notes" were called "certificates" or "certs". Only a few kinds of items could be converted into "certs", and to do it, you had to visit an certificate exchange stall. Three of those stalls were run by three brothers: Niles, Miles and Giles. Since their retirement from the "certing" business, Niles, Miles & Giles have been amusing themselves giving simple tests to passing players.

What you should do:

Talk to them and answer the multiple-choice question they ask you. All you have to do is identify the spinning object and select the correct answer from the choices you're given. Get it right, and you'll be rewarded with some coins, various food items, or an uncut gem. If you fail the test or ignore them, they'll try to convert items from your inventory into banknotes, then teleport you away! See below for a sample test:

Is that a Helmet?

He may even reward you with some of his other helpful potions if you speak to him. If you ignore him, he'll think you don't care about him, and he'll transform into the fearsome Mr. Hyde. Before he turns back into the gentle Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde will attack you using melee, and his combat level depends on your combat level, so it's not always fixed. Varies from 14 - 159.

Evil Bob likes to drag unsuspecting travellers away to a warped plane of reality called ScapeRune to serve as his slaves. Everything in ScapeRune is backwards.

What you should do:

Talk to Evil Bob to find out what he'd like you to do. He'll ask you to catch him some fish. You'll need help from his other slaves to do it. Talk to Evil Bob's slaves, and they will tell you how to get the fish Evil Bob has asked for. You will fish up a cooked fish, which you will have to uncook on a nearby pot. Once you're finished, use the fish with Evil Bob, and after a few repetitions of this, he will fall asleep. Now's your chance to escape! Frogs
Froggies! What it does:

Throughout the ages, many tales have been told about princes and princesses cruelly transformed into frogs. A small army of frogs may come to you while you're minding your own business, and they will ask you to help them by giving their prince or princess a simple kiss to restore their true form.

What you should do:

Go ahead and kiss the frog prince (for female characters) or princess (for male characters). Doing it will get you a "frog token", that can be exchanged at the Varrock Clothes Shop for a frog mask or a prince/princess outfit. And don't worry about warts...these little froggies are wart-free!

If you ignore the request, you will be turned into a frog and teleported to a distant cave. Find the Frog Prince/Princess in the middle of the cave and speak to him/her. Historic Events

Dr. Ford
"Hey there how's your head?"
Dr. Ford What it does:

Sometimes when you're mining and you're not careful, a chunk of the rock you're pounding away at may fly off and hit you on the head.
